The Witcher 3 - Destination Skellige, The King is Dead, earth elemental, Mask of Uruboros
Don't miss our essential guide to completing the Destination Skellige and The King is Dead quests in The Witcher 3.
With Dandelion safe at last, it's time to make your way to Skellige. First, however, you'll need to procure a boat. Climb aboard Roach and begin the journey back to Novigrad. Once inside the city walls, follow the objective marker to the docks. You'll find three vessels dotted around the water (as marked on your mini-map) - speak to the captain of each until you uncover a lead.
Destination: Skellige
Look for the ship's captain at the Golden Sturgeon
Your next task is to locate the captain at the Golden Sturgeon. Head back along the docks, using the objective marker as a guide, and enter the tavern. Inside, approach the bar and speak with Captain Wolverstone. He's willing to carry you to Skellige, but only for cash. If you don't have 1000 coins to hand, tell him you'll need to get some first.
Get the money you need for the voyage to Skellige
Pay Captain Wolverstone the requested amount to sail to Skellige
To proceed, you'll need to amass the required amount of coins. If you're low on money, sell any goods, armour or weapons that you don't need and visit the noticeboards around the world to take contracts and increase your gold reserves. When you've secured the requested 1000 coins, return to the captain at the Golden Sturgeon and hand over his payment to set sail for Skellige.
Defeat the pirates
Some time later, out on the ocean, you awake to chaos on the deck. Raise your sword and slice through the attacking pirates until the threat has been quelled.
When you wake once more, this time on the shores of Ard Skellig, ask the stranger if he hails from clan an Craite. Work through the dialogue choices to learn of the sorceress - hopefully Yennefer - in the area, then bring the conversation to an end.
Go to the port near Kaer Trolde
When you're ready to continue, mount Roach and journey north along the mountain path, heading toward the objective marker. Once at the harbour, proceed along the waterfront and join the crowd gathering at the end. After the eulogy, speak to Yennefer and ask if she'll accompany you to the wake. Recount your adventures and, when the conversation is over, start preparing for the feast.
The King is Dead - Long Live The King
Go to Yennefer's room and put on formal attire
Your next destination should be Yennefer's room at the nearby inn. Head on inside and locate the glowing chest in the corner.
Put on new clothes for your meeting with Yennefer
Collect the outfit from the chest, then equip the shirt, britches and festive slippers.
Meet Yennefer at the entrance to Kaer Trolde
Leave the building and wind your way back through the village, following the route highlighted on your mini-map. Scale the long, long mountain path and, eventually, you'll reach Kaer Trolde's main gate where Yennefer awaits. Introduce yourself to Yennefer's companion then go find Crach.
Go with Yennefer to the wake inside Kaer Trolde
Follow Yennefer through the castle entrance, along the hallway and into the banquet hall. Say hello to the greeter and prepare to meet your dining companions. Ask if they're all jarls' sons and, when a race is proposed, agree to take part.
Win the race up the mountain
Beat Cerys to the top of the mountain
To win the competition, you need to run up the mountain and be the first to pull the axe from the tree stump. It's not a difficult challenge - just maintain your sprinting speed and stick to the race path (as highlighted on your mini-map). Clamber up any ledges that block your route forward and interact with the axe when you reach the summit. Back at the wake, decline a drink then leave.
Talk to Yennefer in private
As soon as you've said goodbye to your new companions, follow Yennefer across the banquet hall. When things take a turn for the aggressive, attempt to calm the men down. After Lugos' second outburst, appeal for peace once more. With the conversation over, follow Yennefer through the doors to learn more about her plan. Work your way through the dialogue options to continue.
Go to Ermion's workshop
Next, walk with Yennefer until you near Ermion's workshop, deep in the bowels of the castle. Once you've finished eavesdropping, continue on to your destination. It's impossible to proceed through the main workshop doors with the birds on look-out. Turn around and head through the nearby windows, moving out into the cold mountain air.
Take a left, follow Yennefer along the walkway and climb up onto the ledge. Head through the window and follow the corridor until you reach the strange room at the bottom of the steps.
Explore the mysterious room using your Witcher Senses
Before travelling any deeper into the castle, use your Witcher Senses to investigate your immediate surroundings. Examine the bear and wolf near the room's entrance, then the deer midway along the right-hand wall. Next, inspect the bowl on the altar at the far end of the room. Finally, investigate the door to the left.
Defeat the aggressive beasts
When the animals attack, raise your sword and begin cutting your way through them. Don't worry too much here: the creatures are easily defeated and do nowhere near as much damage as you might imagine. Once the room is clear, speak to Yennefer again.
Where to find the Mask of Uroboros
Go to Ermion's workshop
Head through the newly-opened doorway to the west and, after Yennefer has sealed the entrance, begin your search for the Mask of Uroboros.
Find the Mask of Uroboros in Ermion's workshop
Make your way along the corridor and into the workshop. Next, activate your Witcher Senses and start investigating the red-highlighted objects in the room. You can examine as much as you like - however, the most important items to collect are the goblet near the bed, the cone on the table and the skull in the north-east corner of the room. Once you've collected them all, examine the statue resting against the northern-most wall. Interact with it and place the goblet in its hand. This opens the entrance to a secret chamber nearby.
Explore the secret chamber using your Witcher Senses
Head through the newly-opened hole and descend the steps leading to the secret chamber.
Kill the earth elemental
Unsurprisingly, you can't just grab the mask and run. Instead, you'll need to defeat the earth elemental patrolling the area first. The good news is that the creature is a bit of a weakling. Simply stay on your toes and dodge its incoming arm swings - and keep your distance whenever it pounds the ground, sending a shockwave billowing across the floor. Between your sword swipes and Yennefer's magical attacks, you should have the elemental down in no time.
Look around for a way to escape from the trap
Quickly loot the elemental's corpse then start scouring the room for an exit. As the gas continues rising, approach the sealed gateway then speak to Yennefer. Say whatever you like to end the sequence, then prepare to be teleported away.
Once the ceremony is over, speak with Crach and work your way through the dialogue options. Finish discussing Ciri and Ermion, then agree to help deal with Hjalmar and Cerys, Crach's children. This adds The Lord of Undvik to your secondary quest list.
