The Witcher 3 - Family Matters, Ciri's Room, talisman, pellar, Eric, pellar's hut
Our complete guide to finishing the Family Matters quest in The Witcher, from completing the investigation to tracking down the pellar.
Once you arrive at your destination, there are two rooms that you'll need to search in order to proceed. Enter the room directly ahead and use your Witcher Senses to highlight areas of interest nearby. First, loot any bags and chest that you come across, then investigate the marks on the wall. Next, take a look at the painting hanging nearby to reveal the hole, then examine the wardrobe behind it from the other side.
Family Matters
When you're ready, go take a look at the candlestick near the door, close to where you entered then room. Fire up your Witcher Senses and follow the red wispy trail out of the room and down the stairs, examining the floorboards when the trail comes to an end.
Taking the talisman completes the current objective, but you can nip into Tamara's room on the upper landing to do some additional investigating and looting if you so choose. Swipe the key from the wardrobe against the south-eastern wall, then activate your Witcher Senses, following the scent trail back outside and all the way down the steps.
Continue following the trail until you reach the small room just off the corridor. Inside, walk around the bookcase (looting the barrels if you like), then unlock the sealed door. In the next room, investigate the burning altar on the table and the note nearby.
Talk to the baron about what you have found
When you've completed your investigation, return to the baron at the top of the stairs and engage him in conversation. Work your way through the various dialogue options, then announce that you're going to see the pellar.
Secondary Quest: Ciri's Room
Examine the room where Ciri stayed using your Witcher Senses
While you're in the baron's castle, you might want to investigate Ciri's room to see if you can uncover any more information. Activate the quest, then make your way to the middle level of the castle, following the objective marker to the room at the end of the corridor. Once inside, use your Witcher Senses to identify areas of interest in the room - look at the clothes on the ground, the spinning top and the book on the table.
Read the book entitled 'The Natural Obscurity of Curses' from Ciri's room
Call up your inventory, scroll to the Quest Items menu and read the book titled 'The Natural Obscurity of Curses' to complete this simple objective. When you're done, close the menu and leave Ciri's room to proceed.
Go to the kitchen and talk to Gretka
Cross over the hallway and head through the door opposite. Inside, take a right and talk to Gretka, currently amusing herself on the floor at the end of the room. Make your way through the various dialogue options to bring the quest to a close.
How to find the pellar
Find the pellar's hut
When you're ready to track down the pellar, return to the middle level of the castle and head east down the long corridor. Approximately halfway along, take a right and head through the door at the end of the passage to leave the building. Outside, descend the steps and take a moment to explore the area.
As noted previously, you'll find a merchant, a blacksmith and an armourer through the archway to the east, plus a noticeboard close to the base of the tower a little further on. You should certainly pay a visit to the blacksmith and inquire after a master armourer - this will place the Master Armours side quest in your list.
Leave the castle grounds via the arch beneath the watchtower to the east and follow the muddy path down the hill. Pass through the large gates at the bottom and continue forwards, following the track around until you reach the gap in the perimeter fence to the left. Cross the bridge and mount your horse on the other side. Finally, begin journeying north-west toward the objective marker.
Once you reach the pellar's hut, speak to the ruffians outside and decide how to deal with them. If your Delusion level hasn't hit level 2 yet, you'll have to do some smooth talking to placate the angry mob. Ask them what they want with the pellar, then offer to heal Eric if they leave.
Talk to the pellar
When they're gone, knock on the door of the hut and attract the pellar's attention. Work your way through the dialogue options to learn what protection the amulet you found offered, then tell the pellar that you're looking for Anna and her daughter. Unfortunately, you'll need to find the pellar's goat to get anything more from him, so offer your assistance and acquire his bell.
